Why does this website exist?

I decided to make this website while at a party my friend Arya hosted last month. Most of the folk there were from design/art backgrounds - the kind that make you regret ever having picked up a sketchpen once you see their work. A lot of them had several creative projects that they were working on, from films, to animation, to web design. I am actively in the process of increasing my creative output across the board, and this seemed like the next logical step. This is the HQ for my scheming, that I hope to cultivate from the little sapling it is now to an expansive forest.

I went down some Youtube rabbit holes, looked into digital gardens, inspiring folks creating their own indieweb spaces on the internet - away from the algorithm demons. I went through a lot of really creative sites with tons of love poured into their making. I’d argue that it’s quite exciting with AI and more automated code - it lets us focus more on design and structure. Plus, with how easy it is to build something like this today, it would be an insult not to!

Now, I initially had a far more lofty vision for how I wanted this to look, how I wanted it to interact, and after several iterations I have found that keeping it simple works best. I drew the home page art from what I had in mind on a piece of paper, and sent it to Samhita, one of the most talented artists I know. She is responsible for the awesome homepage art that you see now. [Now, I will clarify: to say that my initial reference image is even a ‘drawing’ is definitely a stretch.]

I think it’s exciting to have one’s own corner of the internet, and watch it grow over time. I can put whatever I want on this, and I am not bound by format. It feels more personal, and gives me more reason to maintain and continually update this. So welcome, and thanks for being here!
